Well, as a professional writer, I can't wait for the muse to hit me. I have to write, no matter what in order to make that looming deadline. What works best for me is to read what I've written before hand and edit that and then I'm into the story and the words flow. Barring that, I put on the appropriate soundtrack to fit the mood or tone of the scene and that never fails to inspire me.
