Goodreads asked Carrie Bloomston:

How do you get inspired to write?

Carrie Bloomston In my book, I write a lot about inspiration–how to catch it, what it looks like, how to be prepared for it so it doesn't drift away when you aren't ready. For me, inspiration strikes when my mind is calm and quiet, and often when I am looking the other way (not directly for it). Commonly, it involves a multi-sensory experience. Sometimes, after a hike on a local trail, my mind empties enough for me to be quiet enough to hear it. When I tuck my kiddos into to bed, staring up at the lit-up fish tank in the dark, inspiration visits me. Then I have to stumble out and find a pen to catch it. We have to be ready for the sometimes-visitor of inspiration by making sure to capture it before it floats away and moves on.
