Goodreads asked Ian MacKenzie:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Ian MacKenzie Be sure that you research your subject carefully and frequently ask for constructive criticism. Too many writers get it into their heads that they have written a best seller, when in reality they have only satisfied their own ego. Writing requires the ability to create a "theater of the mind". Readers need to be shown your story, not told. Never edit your own work and listen to your critics. It's in your own interests to know when you are being a bore.
