I am a non-fiction writer. I honestly believe that blogging is a great way to hone your ideas for a first book. The process can be soooooo daunting when you are first starting out. And honestly, there are some pretty steep hills to climb. So, I think that blogging can help you break down a topic into manageable parts. Then, those parts can be woven together to make a well-considered narrative.
