Goodreads asked Michael Bertrand:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Michael Bertrand Two main sources: 1) an assisted living home in McAllen, TX that I used to visit when I was serving as the assistant to the rector at St. John's Episcopal. It was set up around an oval shaped road, with apartments on the inside (and a pool in the very center) and houses on the outside. I magnified the dimensions and The Manor was born. 2) My anxiety. I started writing CTT as therapy. The Manor especially was my attempt at externalizing the anxiety I was living through at the time.
