Griffin asked Isaac Thorne:

What was your inspiration for Diggum?

Isaac Thorne Howdy, G.M.

Thanks for reading and for asking. As best I can remember, DIGGUM evolved out of a debate I once overheard between a man and woman I once knew. They were arguing about what they wanted done with their remains after they died. The woman was absolutely terrified of the idea of being buried under the ground and wanted to be cremated. The man was insistent that if the woman was cremated she'd destroy her soul and never be able to join him in the afterlife.

That prompted a little logic test in my head: if a deity who promises to resurrect the just on a day of judgment refuses to resurrect bodies turned to ash, what about the just who are accidentally turned to ash? It sounded like a cosmic injustice to me to not resurrect them if they were incinerated through no fault of their own, so I decided to explore that by allowing a character to experience that injustice and, because of it, try to directly interfere in the plans of an almighty.
