Trevor Dennis asked Gerald M. Kilby:

Hi Gerald. Aspects of your Belt trilogy are reminding me of Iain M Banks. The dry humour in how the QIs interact being a case in point. We know from the brief bio that appears on book sites that you enjoy reading Iain's work. How much has this influenced your own writing style?

Gerald M. Kilby Hi Trevor, interesting question. I do like his style but I'm not sure it suits a fast-paced thriller. That said, when I was thinking about how to present these intelligent machines, my first thoughts were to use a clipped, terse style, but this, by it's very nature, lacked the empathy I wanted to imbue in them. So I went to the other extreme and had them conversing in a much more flowery style, not unlike Iain M. Banks.
