This is a tough one, with so many potential answers. Although I prefer his more overtly horror fiction, Clive Barker's fantasy worlds are so beautifully rendered I can imagine spending a long time soaking in the mythology during extended visits (as long as there's a way to get back to the real world before a titanic creature devours me).
