My husband and I were out at lunch one day, and I started joking about how I bet I could make up a story out of two ridiculous elements. So I said, "Jeremy has two great passions: his gun collection, and his bunny rabbits. And he's also a vampire. Who wants to kill himself." We laughed, but this ridiculous character stuck in my head. He got a name change and a different backstory (which will come up more later in the series), met a cop named Maddy, and suddenly there was a real story. If you like the book, you can thank the fine burrito bowl makers at Chipotle, where the egg was hatched.
