Goodreads asked Shawn Jones:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Shawn Jones Write your way. I wanted to write for years but I just couldn't do it the way teachers and mentors and other writers do. I don't have degree. I can't outline a story to save my life. I can't pass a creative writing course either. Yet here I am writing and selling books.
I have no idea what a story is about when I start it. Sometimes I hear a story on the news or see something happen in a video game, then imagine the conversation the participants might have. I've turned a unique voice on the radio into an alien species. I have lots of voice memos and notes in my phone, but not one outline.
So write like you depend on it, not like someone else does.
