The freedom, I suppose. There aren't many occupations where you can sit in front of a desk and create a dream world. It is a form of escapism. I enjoy my life, but sometimes it is nice to slip into a character and transfer myself into a new world.
The ability to connect with the readers is something I enjoy as well. Often times they have great insight into a character or situation that has never crossed my mind. As a writer I can have tunnel vision, but the reader fortunately can see everything. There is no detail lost to them, and I enjoy that experience of them sharing their insight or opinions with me.
