Cara Black Kate came to me on book tour in Oregon. She was a young woman who’d grown up on Oregon ranches during the Depression while her father was a migrant ranch foreman. My friend in Ashland works with the historical society and helped me find accounts of ranch life during that era. It was a tough life!
