Very difficult to give an offhand response. Sometimes it's a thought I have before getting up which gives me a clue as to how to move a scene on. Sometimes it's just a feeling that a character is getting lost and I need to move him to another place. Sometimes it's a nudge in an e-mail from my editor that he needs the next draft in by Friday.
