How do you get inspired to write?

James Case I am inspired to write through creating sentences and paragraphs that I am personally very proud of. I read them back and they are lasting and evocative. It may take me three or four hours to write a single paragraph. I am fortunate enough to have that luxury. I won't stop editing in the immediate until I feel that the paragraph is utterly compelling for the reader. Then on to the next one. Each paragraph is a building block. The story should be as Vitruvius described the elements of a successful building: firmitas, utilitas et venustas.
