What are your tips on getting started writing independently in the horror genre? I have a couple of your books through the abominable book club box and have really enjoyed them + I just saw you write for nosleep which I love!
Gemma Amor
I would say that short stories are an excellent entry way into the world of horror, particularly with the wealth of anthology horror podcasts out there today. Many writers start by writing shorts and subbing them to magazines, anthology calls and podcasts accepting submissions, and it is a wonderful way to practice the craft, become part of a thriving community and gather confidence as an author. Eventually, you'll have enough material to publish a collection as well if you want to go that route- this is how I started and it led to wonderful things for me. Beyond this, focus on supporting other writers in your space and boosting their work, invest time in social media, get to know the huge array of lovely book reviewers out there, and spend time building relations with reputable indie publishers- many welcome interaction and the indie tribe is putting out some amazing work. Oh and don't be afraid of rejection- rejection is fuel for the fire! Good luck :)

Just wanted to say I recently discovered your work and think your books are fantastic! I'm especially impressed with your variety. I'm on my fourth book of yours, and so far they've all been very different from one another. My question: Which horror sub-genres would you like to explore in future books that you haven't yet tackled?

Dear Gemma, I love (and fear) your novella 'Dear Laura'. Thus, I wanna gift it to friends and family. But, alas, many of them prefer (or only know) to read in German. Unfortunately, the German translation is ebook only. Will their be a print version anytime? Greetings from Berlin.
