Skye
Skye asked Katherine Macdonald:

Absolutely loved Kingdom of Thorns. It is probably one of my all time favorite Sleeping Beauty retellings. It felt like it was written for me. I really hope you continue to do retellings and if you do, then fingers crossed you do some of my favorites. My question for you is do you usually outline your story, or do you let your characters lead you?

Katherine Macdonald Hi Skye! I'm thrilled you enjoyed Kingdom of Thorns so much; what other retellings do you love?

Apologies for the late answer, I didn't get a notification for this. I absolutely have plans for MANY more retellings. I'm currently working on a Little Red Riding Hood retelling (just finishing up the first draft!) and then I'm looking at doing a sort-of break from the classical format to do a steampunk/fairytale trilogy, merging Cinderella, Snow White and Beauty and the Beast; a sort of grown up version of the Lunar Chronicles.

In answer to your question, I usually have a very clear outline, but an permanently tugged in slightly different directions by the characters. Writing for me is a bit like archelogy; I know where to dig but the story reveals itself as I go. I pride myself on my ability to write solid characters with organic relationships, and I think this approach is how I manage it. I know where they're going, but I let them talk for themselves.

Please check out my others stories if you fancy and please do leave a review when you're done, they're so helpful!

Thank you!
