Linda Klager
Linda Klager asked Rachel Fordham:

Rachel, I am reading "A Lady In Attendance". I have never heard this phrase before. Was it really common?

Rachel Fordham Hi Linda,

from what I understand “attending lady”, “a lady in attendance”, “an attending” could have all been used. If a woman wanted to see the dentist they might have stopped in and said, “I have a terrible toothache.” And the dentist might have said, “come anytime. I have a lady in attendance, no need for a chaperone.”

C. Edmund Kells is credited as having the First Lady in Attendance. Feel free to message me if you want a few links to articles on Ladies in Attendance. It was an exciting new field for women.

Thanks for reading.
