Just finished "Assassins of Thasalon" for the second time. Thank you for a satisfying end/beginning to Tanar, Bosha and Adelis's story. Odd question, if demons arise randomly could one rise into a human first with no animal intermediary? if so, would that make any difference?
Lois McMaster Bujold
Yes, one could. What difference it would make would depend on the particulars of the human (though not of the demon-elemental-blob, which would be identical in every case.) It might feel less like going mad to the untrained recipient, as there wouldn't be all those confusing animal lives/perceptions/memories to deal with, but it would still feel decidedly odd. (Not to mention carcinogenic, plus the new accident-prone-ness.)
Interesting question!

Penric can get water from the air, and also turn it to ice. I wonder what else? Purify seawater (any advantage over air?)? Concentrate alcoholic drinks (like winter wine but faster)? Separate water into hydrogen and oxygen (for what purpose?)? Weld objects together (maybe not just metals)? Heat food like a microwave oven, or freeze it? Nuclear fission, probably not. Nuclear fusion, surely not.

Any chance of a collector's edition or new version of the Vorkosigan Saga books that can be acquired as a set (boxed or otherwise)? I'd love to own (and be able to buy as gifts) the whole series in paper form... without having to hunt down each individual paperback (first world problems, I know - just wishful thinking). As a side note, I never thought the original covers quite did your writing justice.
