Melissa
Melissa asked Keith R.A. DeCandido:

Where do you like to write - are you an at-home-in-total-silence kind of guy, or do you like the noise of writing in a public space like a cafe?

Keith R.A. DeCandido I have a "writing" playlist on iTunes (and in my iPod) which is mostly Jethro Tull and Tom Waits songs because I discovered in 2002 that I write best to music by those two acts. No idea why, but they're among my favorites, so whatever.

In general, I can write anywhere. Most of my writing is done at my desk at home, but I spent most of yesterday writing in Central Park and in a cafe on Columbus Avenue. My 2006 STARCRAFT novel NOVA was written in three different countries -- I composed that novel in a pub in Dublin, in a hotel room in Glasgow, in a country house in County Wicklow, in a hotel room in Atlanta, at my apartment, at the Starbucks up the street from my apartment, and on planes and trains that took me back and forth among those various places.
