Goodreads asked Kent Giles:

How do you get inspired to write?

Kent Giles I started out writing in peer-reviewed medical journals. Over time, I accepted the challenge of writing a novel. The task seemed like climbing Everest in the beginning. With about 2,000 hours of effort per book, being a writer isn't exactly a hobby. After 10,000 hours of fiction writing, I can honestly say the journey was worth it. Whether it was my late mother's pride in my first novel (Red Sky at Morning) or meeting my readers, the relationships forged through my writing have been fulfilling. From a theological standpoint, writing has helped me grow closer to God. How, you ask? Because as a fiction writer, I get to create worlds and characters. I get to determine who lives and who dies. I gain the opportunity to "get inside" the mind of people from different places and times. All of this exploration has given me a greater appreciation for people from all walks of life.
