Lyrical asked Alka Joshi:

Your writing is so immersive Alka. Such a treasure to read. This senior woman in a small town in Ontario Canada has never travelled to exotic places like India but with your narrative I feel the warmth, smell the scents as you describe them, see the beautiful saris and wish to experience them one day. My only question is what books have inspired you to become the kind of author you are?

Alka Joshi Thank you, Gini. I love immersing my readers in the setting, which is so full of life, scents and sounds that I want everyone to experience it. So many books have inspired me, starting at an early age:
A thousand and one Arabian Nights, Jane Eyre, Middlemarch, Tales of Krishna, Great Expectations, Ellen Foster, All the Light We Cannot See, How I Met You (short story collection), The Householder, Charms for an Easy Life, The Color Purple, Purple Hibiscus, Songbirds...I could go on forever...reading is so much fun :-)
