Did you write fiction while you were a Judge? In the transition from full-time Judge to full time-writer, what were the high points and the challenging points? I ask because I retired recently and am writing novels.

Good morning. I did in fact write while I was a judge, almost every day. Honestly, I'm not sure there were many complications or challenges. I enjoy writing, and on most days, it beat the heck out of a docket full of probation violations. There was really no transition for me--I still write every morning from around six to seven-thirty, same as always. I tell folks now that I have only one fulltime job. How did the hometown folks respond to your books and the local references? I enjoyed them so much I actually bought them all (although someone borrowed "Many Aspects" and never returned it - they must have liked it, too). I worked at Stuart Enterprise many years ago so I appreciate those local references and the considered thought put into writing about events that affect the area and the legal system in general.

I read Bonfire of the Vanities many years ago. It has stuck with me for so many reasons. Any situation (book, movie, real life) where someone taks a walk on the wild side, makes a wrong turn in the wrong place, is in the wrong place at the wrong time,skinny trophy wives...I flash back to Bonfire...It was brilliant. There was a movie on HBO last year starring John Turturro called "Night Of" which was a of the above. ?
