Jason Pargin:
Have you ever thought about compiling the greatest hits of your essays/podcast appearances into an essay book?
Jason Pargin
Yes, the big issue is that I don't have the right to any of my Cracked columns, the company who owns Cracked owns the copyright on all of that work (my contract there stated as such, it was work-for-hire) and there's no easy for me to get the rights back (I've inquired with all three owners of the site over the years and no one was sure about the legal implications of letting me have my columns back re: whether or not they would still be allowed to publish them).
So that means any such book would require all new essays, even if I took the basic premise from my Cracked pieces I'd need to totally rewrite them to avoid overlap, and it would basically require the same amount of time as writing a novel, so that means an upcoming novel would need to be delayed 1-2 years while I write the book of essays instead, and I don't know that fans in general would prefer that.
Still, I don't doubt I'll do it some day, when my schedule changes and I have more time.

Jason Pargin:
I feel as though you, like me, have had rabbits and dogs but no cats. Is this accurate? But mostly, thank you sincerely for the character of Amy. She resonates so hard with me. I saw the same whale documentary where the orcas don't even eat the calf that they kill, and I couldn't sleep after it. It was horrible. Anyway, I made my pastor read JDATE and she also fell in love with Amy.

I first read JDATE around 9 years ago when I was in high school. It was the book that made me realize that reading can actually be engaging and enjoyable instead of just some bullshit a teacher forces you to do. Since then I've preordered every subsequent book of yours and I'm psyched for If This Book Exists You're in the Wrong Universe! Sorry this wasn't a question?
