Claire Farrand
Claire Farrand asked Emma V.R. Noyes:

What would you recommend to other authors when writing a book?

Emma V.R. Noyes Where to begin! First, don't psyche yourself out. The first sentence you write doesn't need to be perfect. Neither does the second or third. Just start putting your thoughts onto paper without judging them, and you'll find that the writing will begin to flow.

If you're struggling with where to start, my creative writing teacher once said: start with a character and a purpose. A specific person who has a specific goal, whether that's a lost princess trying to regain her kingdom or a hungry child desperate for chicken nuggets. Conflict, desires, and goals are what makes a great story.
