Goodreads asked Mary E. Martin:

How do you get inspired to write?

Mary E. Martin I think any writer has many sources of inspiration. For me, it comes from people around me, places I've been or ideas I've read or thought about. But most of all, it comes from the characters themselves. I practised law for many years in Toronto and spent hours upon hours listening to clients and their problems. After years of this, I suddenly started to write [The Osgoode Trilogy in which a Toronto lawyer, Harry Jenkins, is the protagonist. Those years of stories inspired me to create that trilogy. I have always had a great interest in almost all the arts. That love was the inspiration for The Trilogy of Remembrance in which Alexander Wainwright, Britain's finest landscape artist, is the protagonist.
