Would you define your books as part of the new adult genre? Why do you think new adult books have become a trend in the last few years?

This is a great question. I do consider my books New Adult, because NA is about characters in the 18-early 20's age range confronting the 'firsts' in life -- first serious relationship, quest for a first job, first sexual experience, etc.
I think NA is a trend because it's emotionally gripping to read about characters in these situations. We're usually rooting for them to find their way and get it right, and we sympathize with their missteps. It's a very exciting time in life, and there is something very magical about all those firsts -- especially when love is on the line.
