Goodreads asked Michelle Rabe:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Michelle Rabe Read a lot. Write a lot. Real Writers Revise. Don't be afraid to try something crazy. Write what you're passionate about.

The first 2 are pretty basic, you have to read to know what works and what doesn't. You have to write a lot to get your mind accustomed to the practice. This isn't brain surgery, you don't need to go to school for years but you do have to put in some time and work honing your craft. You may think that an idea is far out and crazy, you won't know whether or not it will work until you try, don't be afraid even failures teach us something. There will come a point when you may try to write a certain kind of story or in a certain genre just because it's what's hot. Please try to resist that temptation, you'll create something lack luster that's not fun to read or write. Writing is at it's best when you're having fun during the creation.
