Give that Gentleman Jole takes palace more than 5 years after Vorpatril’s Alliance when the Barrayar government came into an unexpected influx of billions of marks, why is Sergyer still scrambling to build a second planetary base / spaceport? Did fatherhood turn Gregor stingy?
Lois McMaster Bujold
I suspect you underestimate how much planetary (or national) governments cost, and how many projects compete for funding. $406 billion for the US Federal alone for one year, a quick google suggests, not counting the states, or the rest of the planet. And we don't even have a space navy...

Hi, I was just wondering if you've heard of or read Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell? I really enjoyed it, primarily because it felt a lot like Vorkosigan saga. Not in a derivative sense, but more in the sense of general feeling I got from it. I later learnt that Ms Maxwell is a fan of your work (and of Georgette Heyer's work, too), so I just felt like I had to put it on your radar. Cheers!

I just finished the 3rd Penric story - I have to say these are just getting better; Des and Penric are a wonderful pairing. I am fascinated by the possibilities. I especially like the "conservation of entropy" idea in how a chaos demon and its rider work together, which can go so many different directions, from subtle chemistry (catalyst?) to gross physical manifestations. I hope this gets explored more.

I was lucky enough to be sent to work in the US for a couple of months back in October 1996, just in time for Memory in hardback and Cetaganda in paperback. You've mentioned before how your UK publisher dropped you after Paladin Of Souls (idiots that they were, in my opinion). I apologise if this has been asked and answered before, but how did Cetaganda not get a UK publication?
