Goodreads asked Kelly K. Lavender:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Kelly K. Lavender The best thing about being a writer is the opportunity to meet readers. Especially rewarding-knowing that they understand the allegorical aspect of the story. I enjoy writing to entertain but also to convey stories about tough, strong resourceful women who cope with daunting situations. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, "A woman is like a teabag - you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water." I call it takeaway fiction, fiction with a meaningful message. As Jodi Picoult said, "Fiction is the back door to truth."
For example, Sofia must overcome language barriers, deal with a mild-mannered spouse and dodge a stalker in one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Above all, she must forgive to forge ahead to lock-in on the plan for her life. Writing to empower women to elevate women proves gratifying beyond my greatest expectations. I like to see women rescue themselves.
