Goodreads asked Scott David Brown:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Scott David Brown Well, write what you know is the most common advice and I think it is apt. I'd also say don't give up. I've had positive and negative reviews of my books and short stories, but I don’t get too discouraged. Really, a lot of it comes down to taste. Some people won't like your book no matter how good it is. Of course, if you are a terrible writer, you may want to try something else.

The good news is that spelling and grammar are fairly easy to improve with practice. Story development is a bit trickier. It helps to watch TV, movies, read, and see plays. The nice thing about writing is that it doesn't really cost much to pursue financially. You can practice easily and join writing groups to get advice.

I like self-publishing because it gives me complete control of my work. Also, I can get feedback from strangers. But, mostly I just like to write and share my work. Some people won't like it and that's ok. You have to be willing to accept some negative reviews if you are going to put yourself out there!
