Goodreads asked Rick L. Huffman:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Rick L. Huffman 1) Write regularly.
* If you want to be a writer, write!
2) Read voraciously.
* Reading is how one learns what good writing entails. If one doesn't
love reading, it's hard for me to understand why they would aspire to be a
writer.
3) Study your craft.
* I wish I had a nickel for every time I've heard someone say, "I should write
a book about [fill in the blank.] They say it as if writing requires no study
or effort. You'll never hear anyone say, "I should do a heart transplant," or
" I should build a Roman Triumphal Arch." Just like any skill, good writing requires years of
study and practice. Yes, anyone can write and publish a book these days, but will
anyone want to read it? Study your craft!
