How do you get inspired to write?

Anne Bennett Inspiration strikes me from all directions—sometimes it’s a quiet moment, other times it’s a conversation with a friend that won’t leave my mind. I’ve been inspired by a single sentence in a book, wishing the author had taken the story somewhere else—and realizing maybe I could. Travel is a big one, too. A trip can plant the seed of a character or setting that grows into an entire story. I think of writing like diving: the surface might look calm, but once you’re in, there’s a whole world waiting to be explored.
