Goodreads asked Lawrence Grobel:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Lawrence Grobel I've struggled with how to write a memoir and yet not appear as if I was telling "tales out of school" so to speak. Because I have spent so much time with so many very famous people, I didn't want my memoir to become something for the gossip trade. When I finally realized the way to tell the story is to make it "my" story--that is, how did a kid from the streets of Brooklyn wind up on Marlon Brando's island for ten days with the reclusive actor, or spend 9 months going head-to-head with Barbra Streisand at the height of her career?--then it became easier to write. And that's how I wrote the first volume of what looks like a 2-part memoir: You Show Me Yours.
