Goodreads asked Michael McAfee:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Michael McAfee When I write, I usually do an outline of where I want the story to go. The outline is a really, really rough outline. It's more like sign posts on the adventure. I use this to help with writer's block. It keeps me focused and on track. I also put small notes telling me key events I need to discuss in the chapter or section. For really hard issues, I let it sit, see a movie, a television show, or play a game. I take my mind off of the issue, and before long my mind will come up with a solution, and off I go into the deep world of subconscious wonder.
