Goodreads asked Kelly L. Ward:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Kelly L. Ward That's a tough one. I guess I got the idea from several different facets and I incorporated them to make the story as interesting and God-honoring as I could. First, there's the mousy young girl who must learn to step outside of her own comfort zone--I can definitely relate to her in this regard. Then, there's the controlling boyfriend--I witnessed these types of relationships several times growing up. There's also false Christian guilt with a little victim mentality to keep it infuriating--how many times have we as Christians tried to operate according to our own understanding rather than according to God's sovereignty? I could go on for days. Suffice it to say, this book is a lot of little things--research, imagination, and end-goal--woven together in what I hope is a realistic and entertaining way. Ultimately, I wrote the book to expose bondage and to glorify God.
