asked:
If I (re)read original version of THE STAND (vs the "Complete & Uncut Edition"), will I miss out on anything that's set up or paid off in THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT?

This book is set in the timeline of the uncut version as 1990 is referenced a few times. However, regarding the main book, the writers were specifically instructed to stay pretty far away from it. Characters and events can only really be mentioned in passing. So, unless mention of "The Kid" happens later in the book (I'm 40% through as of this answer), there isn't anything you'll miss just re-reading the original version. This is all just supplemental stories set in the world, not a continuation of King's work.

For starters, the original one was set on 1980 and the uncut was set 10 years later, in 1990.
I'm like 15 stories in, as far as I remember a character mentions the year 1990. On another story a Stephen King book from 1989 is mentioned, and in another story Twin Peaks is also mentioned. So now that I think about it, the book goes with the uncut edition.
