Hi Richard - No, I don't think there needs to be suffering for there to be joy. But certainly people's senses get acclimatized to their condition such that a small annoyance for you or me could cause a billionaire suffering, or likewise something that would barely raise the eyebrow of a billionaire might bring you or me immense joy.
