Goodreads asked Frances Vick:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Frances Vick I came across lots of my old copies of Melody Maker and NME's and it made me think a lot about how the nature of music subculture and fame has altered since the dawn of the internet. I thought about all those bands who seemed to be on the verge of greatness in the 90's, who are now more or less forgotten, and how it must feel to have nearly made it, but failed at the last hurdle.
There's also such a mythology about dead rock stars too, that I wanted to explore, and it’s doubly tragic for those who die young- they’ll always be trapped in the amber of their time, never having a chance to change, to grow up. They’ll always be defined through other people’s memories.
