Goodreads asked Machel Shull:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Machel Shull I don't just wait for inspiration. I deal with writer's block by being prepared with an outline, chapters and a direction in what needs to take place during my writing time. When I am prepared, ready and my mind has a little map of ideas already to go, I am able to connect the dots much more easily.
I think writing is a lot like life. In order to make it happen you have to create the 'win' for it in terms of your writing time, too. This helps me push through harder and less inspired times to write.
Then later, when editing my first draft, I can tell when I need to cut certain paragraphs because they were the push-through paragraphs that helped me get going.
Writing is a spiritual experience for the soul, but also a disciplined one that needs repetition in order to learn how to write anywhere, anytime.
I originally started in the newspaper business with press releases then a newspaper column. Learning to write on tight deadlines helped me immensely. I would recommend if just starting to blog weekly, journal write and take creative writing classes. Good luck!
