C.J. Heck asked Gregory H. Murry:

How long did it take you to write "Content With My Wages, A Sergeant's Story: Book 1-Vietnam"? At what point in your life did you realize you had this book inside that had to be written?

Gregory H. Murry It took about nine years to complete a first draft of what turned out to be three separate books. Included in that time were several bouts with cancer and an on-going life with my adopted family from Afghanistan. The last two years have been spent refining the manuscript and fact checking with my comrades from Vietnam. Some of them contributed their own memories which I tried to weave into my narrative. Proofreading and the index proved to be the most labor intensive and when I was done I still find little mistakes. When I retired I looked back at the three different wars and the things I learned along the way. I had learned things from books that actually helped me do various things in the army so I thought I should leave my lessons learned for some future soldiers.
