Mary Raihofer asked Bryan Mooney:

How and where did you learn your writing skills? I don't think writing is a skill you learn. You either have it or you don't. I'm just reading East of Eden and I'm blown away. I think by the time you are in high school, you know whether you have the potential to wite .

Bryan Mooney Mary-

I read a lot of books, magazines, newspapers and watch a lot of movies. Then I write and write and write. It is like anything else you learn, it takes practice, practice and more practice. But with practice you get better.
Remember first and foremost that you are telling a story. Try to make it a good story, a story you would want to tell your friends. I wrote four books before showing the next one to an editor for review. I can see my writing style or my "voice" improving with each story.

I also love to write short stories. I also enter short story contests, just to practice certain aspects of my craft, dialog, description. Check out the WOW website. The do quarterly contests with a critique of your writing. The stories are limited to 750 words and only cost ten dollars to enter. Great fun.

Lastly, keep it fun and exciting to you. You will never make a lot of money but you can create your own little world and invite people to come inside and share it with you. Hope this helps. Good luck!
