Goodreads asked G.S. Jennsen:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

G.S. Jennsen I can answer how the idea for the Aurora Rising trilogy came to me, because it's a story I've told before.

I was in the shower one morning (thinking about what my next writing might be about of course), and an image popped into my head, clear and crisp and fully-formed. The image was of a woman with dark red hair pulled back in a ponytail, dropping her head out from the hull of a small starship in a hangar bay (she accomplished this by hanging upside down out of the hull, naturally).

To those of us who admire elegant craftsmanship, the ship was of course beautiful. The woman was obviously working on the ship; I had the sense it was her ship. I didn't know anything about her, except she lived sometime in the future, owned a starship, and knew how to work on it. Also, she had a story she needed to share with me.
