Goodreads asked Mark E. Cooper:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Mark E. Cooper The best thing for me has changed over the years. My first book came out in 2001. Back then I wrote purely for fun, and worked as an engineer to pay the bills. Writing then was a hobby, and the best thing about it was world building. Later, as more books came out, I started to wonder if I had a future in writing, but it was too scary to leave my career.

In 2013 my "real" job ended when my company threw me and all my friends on the scrap heap. Writing then became a lifeline. By going full time, I was able to support myself and not depend upon the state. The best thing about it then, was paying my mortgage :)

Now a few years further on, I'm still full time and loving my life. Writing is my career, my hobby, AND the reason I get up in the mornings. It's everything. The best part about it now is being able to write what I want, when I want, and I have the best life.

A zero stress life is heaven.
