Goodreads asked Nathanael Green:

How do you get inspired to write?

Nathanael Green How don't I??

I've wanted to write as far back as my memory goes (though that's getting shorter these days!).

And daily, there's inspiration everywhere. In the books I read and the stories I hear and see. In the conversations with strangers and loved ones. In the way the sunlight shifts the color of someone's hair.

For me, I think it's just observation and curiosity. When I take a moment to look around and wonder about life, there's no end to the things I want to try to play with in writing. And writing is how I can sort through my thoughts and questions and pose new ones that I just don't have answers to.

But often this question is just the veil for a more practical question: how do you actually sit down and put words on the page?

And the answer to that one, for me, is to remember how I feel after I've written. I feel happier after I've written. So any time I'm not "feeling inspired" to actually do the activity, I remember how I will feel once I'm 10 minutes in and for the rest of the day after that.
