A Goodreads user asked Rachel Hauck:

What do you do if a story just doesn't seem to be going anywhere, it "won't cooperate", and such?

Rachel Hauck Kymberli, good question! If a story is not working (and that happened with How To Catch A Prince) usually it's because I've not started write, I've not done my homework on the characters and their story.

If I've done that but a scene doesn't work or the middle sags it's usually because I'm being too technical or writing too tight and not letting the story breathe or advance. Maybe I'm writing a scene from the wrong point of view.

So I do something quirky to knock me out of the rut but it has to fit with the overall journey of the character. But since I'm the architect of the story, I make my story work for me. I try not to have too many "run away" characters or scenarios.

Hope this helps!

Rachel
