Goodreads asked Giulia Napoli:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Giulia Napoli I work 8 - 10 hours per day. I write for 6 - 8 of these. The other couple of hours are spent in research for a story. That's what you need to do. If you don't want to write "full time," it will rarely work for you.

Your chances of making a decent living at this are about 1:10. You write because you need to, because you love it, because you have a story that will tear you apart if it can't get out. If that's not what you're feeling, go do something else.
