Hi Maria, after having just finished Shadow Study (which was great - just by Yelena/Valek's presence if nothing else!) I've been really curious as to why you chose to write in 3 POVs, unlike all your other books?
Maria V. Snyder
Hi Tas! Glad you liked Shadow Study :) As for the POVs, I was switching between the two main protagonists in my Healer series - I started with short scenes in Scent of Magic and Taste of Darkness. I wanted to show Kerrick's mission (instead of him telling her all about it later) and I wanted to try something different. For Shadow Study, I knew Valek's past would be important and I thought the best way to show it was through flashbacks from his POV and since I'd already written 3 books solely from Yelena's POV, I wanted to learn more about Valek. Which is why they alternate chapters. As for Janco, that was pure indulgence on my part - I love that guy and thought his short scenes would add some humor to the story.

Recently read the Chronicles of Ixia books as suggested by a friend, and loved every moment.I have inspirations to become an author in the future, but I was wondering if you have any advice and if and do you find it hard to switch writing different points of view whilst still in a mind set of a character's view you have just written?

Hello! Chronicals of Ixia has been my fave series since 2013:) I adore the world and the characters! I have recently been rereading the books and have a few old Qs. What is south of Sitia? A country? How does the jungle end? Is there any language variations throughout S&I? I know that there was the Efe/Ilias language. Can you say what Liana's magic will be like? Were there people in the jungle before Sandseeds? Sorry.
