Goodreads asked Dave Cravens:

How do you get inspired to write?

Dave Cravens I'm often hit with an idea that I just have to get down on paper. It something that nags at me until I do it. Where do the ideas come from? Everywhere. I'm inspired by my kids, my wife, my friends, life in general. Sometimes I scare myself with "holy hell, wouldn't it be terrible if X happened?" And then after I get over the scare, I realize that terrible thing would make a great story for some protagonist to overcome. It may sound rather contrived, but I spend a lot of time trying to think of ideas that haven't been exploited yet. What can my story or characters bring to the table that no one has seen or read yet? It's important to be able to stand out.
