Goodreads asked Michelle Korenfeld:

How do you get inspired to write?

Michelle Korenfeld Working at a Man and the Living museum, I introduced animals to children. So, writing was based on an intimate connection with animals and kids. Before writing a story or poem, I researched past literature and scientific facts about the animal. Then I brainstormed with my two daughters. One was about 7 years old. I would tell her that I need to write a story about a certain animal. She would spontanously tell me a 10 minutes story about that animal. Then I would consult my 2 years old daughter. She would tell me a few words about it. But it helped my in characterizing the animals, and it gave me ideas. Only after filling my head with all those facts and ideas, I would start writing. Sometimes, I painted the animal first. Then based on what came forth through the painting, I would start writing. The stories and poems also evolved through the feedback from the kids themselves.
