Inspiration is a strange creature. It arrives from all directions, including news articles, conversations with friends, non-fiction books I read, life experiences. Sometimes it flames, then dies before I can do much with it. Other times it's a slow burn, and I end up writing something from a little idea I had years earlier. I sometimes start with a character, but most often I start with an intriguing situation, often a difficult one. Moral dilemmas are of great interest to me, so those types of situations often spur me to write.
